Here we explain where the Colca Valley is located and where the Colca Canyon is located.
They are 2 completely different formations.
The Geological formation of the Colca Canyon begins at the Cruz del Condor and continues in a south-west direction passing through the town of Cabanaconde - Huambo and continues towards the Majes Valley where the Colca River meets the Andamayo River and the Majes River is born.
The Colca Canyon has a distance of 100k. and the tourist trek routes are only in the first 15 kilometers of canyon.
The starting point of all treks begins in Cabanaconde.
Cabanaconde is considered the Ollantaytambo of the Colca Canyon.
The classic tours only go to the beginning of the Colca Canyon, which is the Condor cross.
Encourage and explore the Colca Canyon and don't just go as far as the large masses of tourists go.
